The course can be taken at an inland or coastal location. It may be conducted in various boat types, both planing and displacement. Powerboat Intermediate

It aims to teach the standard required to complete a short coastal passage by day. You will cover cruising at planing speed and more advanced boat handling during the course. It is recommended for anyone considering moving on to the Advanced course. The course can be conducted on a planing or displacement boat.

Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory

Powerboat Advanced

It aims to teach boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a planning powerboat safely day and night in tidal coastal waters, with which the candidate may be familiar, in more demanding conditions. Given the nature of these passages, Advanced Powerboat courses should be delivered on powerboats of a minimum of 6 metres and an engine size sufficient to enable coastal passages at planing speed.

Two days of hands-on recovery and fleet management techniques for dinghies and windsurfers for those operating in a training or racing environment. This course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. It is strongly recommended that a rescue crew member hold a first aid certificate (or have first aid experience).

Designed with the Professional Yachting Association (PYA), this course intends to build on a candidate’s basic powerboating knowledge and skills. Attendees will gain confidence in their ability to manoeuvre a powerboat more smoothly. The emphasis is on learning important skills in day and night pilotage and passenger carriage and management. This course is very useful for anyone operating a powerboat day or night and who is responsible for carrying passengers. The course includes plenty of time to practice working with a crew member and operating short-handed. Candidates will practice and become familiar with pilotage for short passages from ship to shore, both day and night.

OnBoard Club

UKSA is an OnBoard Club, offering children the opportunity to try watersports in a safe, fun and structured environment.

OnBoard is the RYA’s children’s sailing and windsurfing programme. It allows children to try watersports through their local club or training centre in a safe, fun and structured environment.

Open to all children, OnBoard is a beginner programme that gets people on the water for the first time. Whether you would like to learn how to sail or windsurf, no experience or equipment is needed to get you started. The programme is progressive, and you can work through the RYA Youth Schemes.

As well as getting fresh air and exercise, children’s sailing and windsurfing offer various invaluable life skills, from problem-solving to confidence and teamwork.
