About this course

The RYA Intermediate Windsurfing (Planing) course introduces participants to planing techniques, enabling them to harness the power of stronger winds. Participants learn how to control the board at higher speeds, manage their stance, and optimize sail trim. Practical exercises focus on improving transitions and maintaining stability. This course is ideal for windsurfers progressing from beginner skills to higher performance levels.

Course fundamentals

Minimum ageNone (although under 16s may prefer to learn through the Visit W3SchoolsYouth Windsurfing Scheme)
Duration8-10 hours, delivered over a number of short sessions or full days.
Course contentFaster tacks, use of the harness and getting in the foot straps. Get ready for the excitement of blasting control. Beach starting and carve gybing are taught in this course or as a clinic tailored to your needs.
Certificate or qualificationSail on all points in various conditions using faster tacks and the harness. As you progress through this level, you can also use the foot straps and get planing.

Knowledge or skills to a stated level

Windsurfing skills to the standard of Start Windsurfing or Youth Stage 3.
