Youth Sailing Scheme - Start Sailing Stage 3

Course Overview

The RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – Start Sailing Stage 3 focuses on refining skills and building self-reliance on the water. Young sailors learn how to sail upwind and downwind effectively, handle stronger winds, and perform advanced maneuvers like gybing with precision. This course introduces the principles of navigation and prepares participants for independent dinghy sailing. By the end, participants will feel confident managing their boats in a variety of conditions, opening the door to competitive sailing or advanced training.

Fundamentals

Course Content

Improved understanding of rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery.

Minimum Age

Centre Specific (Please contact your local Training Centre)

Minimum Duration

2 days (16 hours) or equivalent number of sessions

Certificate Issuing Criteria

Demonstrate ability to launch and sail a dinghy on all points of sail or around a triangle course in moderate conditions.
