The RYA Marine Radio VHF (SRC) course is a mandatory qualification for anyone operating a marine VHF radio with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). Participants learn to communicate distress messages, routine calls, and emergency procedures. The course also covers the use of safety equipment like EPIRBs and SARTs. Delivered through practical simulations, this program ensures participants are confident and competent in marine communication, culminating in an internationally recognized certification.

Fundamentals

Course Content

Basics of radio operation, frequencies, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, making ship-to-shore telephone calls, Digital Selective Calling, Global Maritime Distress Safety System.

Minimum Age
16

Minimum Duration
10 hours plus exam time. The exam will always be classroom based but the course can be taken in the classroom or online

Certificate Issuing Criteria

To be able to operate the radio and know the procedures required to use the radio.
