RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman's Course
Course Overview
This course is designed for those wanting to cruise the UK’s and Europe’s network of lakes, rivers and canals. It deals specifically with the requirements of the inland boater, whether they be a narrow boat owner or cruiser enthusiast. It assumes no prior knowledge and so is ideal for the first timer, yet the more seasoned boater will learn plenty of tricks of the trade and tips to make their boating safer and more enjoyable.

Minimum Age |
12. For students aged 12-16, the RYA Inland Waterways Handbook should have the endorsement stating ‘is aged 12-16 and therefore the holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult’ ticked. |

Minimum Duration |
2 days. Helms who have at least one full season’s experience may attend a 1-day direct assessment. |

Certificate Issuing Criteria |
The appropriate RYA course completion certificate is awarded following successful completion of the course and its prescribed assessment. |
