All Duke of Edinburgh Award Courses
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a prestigious youth program aimed at fostering personal development, resilience, and skills among young people aged 14 to 24. The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing activities align closely with the program’s core values, offering a unique avenue for participants to fulfill the physical, skill-based, and expedition components of their DofE Award.
RYA sailing courses provide structured training in navigation, seamanship, and sailing techniques, helping participants develop technical skills and confidence on the water. For the Physical section of the DofE Award, regular participation in sailing enhances fitness, coordination, and endurance, as managing a sailboat requires strength, agility, and teamwork.
The Skills section can be fulfilled through RYA certifications such as the Start Sailing, Day Skipper, or Coastal Skipper courses. These qualifications demonstrate progression, problem-solving, and a commitment to mastering a specialized craft.
For the Expedition section, participants can embark on adventurous voyages, either on dinghies or yachts, to meet the DofE’s requirements for self-sufficient navigation and teamwork in challenging conditions.
Combining the DofE Award with RYA sailing creates an enriching experience, allowing young people to develop practical skills, foster a sense of adventure, and build lasting memories while working toward their award.
